Trip to Cagayan De Oro and Meeting An American Guy

October 11, 2007 Thursday - Me and my cousin Mary went to Cagayan De Oro City together with both our moms to meet and welcome Mary's American boyfriend, Steve. That was their first meeting after months of chatting and sending emails through the internet and so my cousin was a little nervous that time. We arrived at the airport almost 2:00 in the afternoon but the airplane landed at 3:00 o'clock pm. When Steve finally came out in the arrival area, they exchanged smiles and hugs and it seems there is already a chemistry between them.

We just passed SM Mega Mall because we
wanted to tour around the city to let Steve have a glimpse of what The City of Golden Friendship looks like. We passed Xavier University, Divisoria, and of course, the malls. First stop, gasoline station...hahahaha..do i need to say this? Well, maybe yes, because so close to it is the Lim Ket Kai Mall where we took sometime to look around for something interesting. But of course just like any other mall, there is nothing so great about it when you are not there for shopping. So after few minutes of window shopping, our stomachs leaded us to KFC for a fried chicken festival. Mmmm...i like the hot and spicy chicken, makes me hungry thinking about it now.

After the mall, we visited Mary's grandmother, the mother of her father. They live within the city limits so it is near and fast. With some hi and hellos and then talks and laughs, Lola Remedios finally said she likes Steve after seeing him giving Mary a fashionable and stylish wrist watch. Impressed? Hehehehee maybe...

The streets of Cagayan De Oro are busy and noisy and so it is tiring but fun. It is almost 7:00 pm when we headed back to Iligan and arrived around 9:00 pm. And even tired, they still went to introduce each members of the family and relatives. Everyone likes Steve because he is absolutely fantastic. He is religious and serious in life but funny and humorous as well. He have a good singing voice and everyone sang long with him in his gospel songs with a keyboard or a guitar. He gets along with our family so well. So he gets my vote for being the man of my cousin...hahahahaha...

However, there was something interesting that happened. What we did not expect? The whole neighborhood came out to welcome Steve. It was like fiesta and Steve was like a popular figure that everyone wanted to see. Kinda funny but true to Filipinos. When we see white people, we always like to say hi and smile not just because we are curious on how white people looks like, or because we have a high regards to them, but basically, Filipinos are naturally friendly and hospitable which makes any foreigner and tourist like the Philippines and the Filipinos so much.
